Karyn's alarm went off, waking her. She looked at the clock.

6:30 AM

It's Saturday. Why do I have it set so early? she wondered. She turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. After what seemed like only a few minutes, someone pushed her awake. Groggily, she woke up. A boy she didn't know was standing over her.

"Karyn, wake up," he said.

She could barely make him out and then she understood why. Apparently her vision had gone bad in this reality. She grabbed for her "new" glasses and put them on. With her better vision, she saw who the boy was. It was Jay Duncan, a geeky boy she knew from school. He was also one her closest friends, in this reality.

"Uh, Jay? What is it?"

"I thought you'd be ready by now," he said.

She looked at the clock again.

7:05 AM

"Ready for what?" she asked.

Jay seemed confused. "For the sci-fi con."

Then a few of geek Karyn's memories filled her mind. This was the day of The Sci-Fi Convention, which was taking place a few towns over. Geek Karyn and her friends were going to attend and spend almost the whole day there. Karyn really didn't feel like going to a convention, especially a science fiction one. But then, other memories filled her head. She began to remember other conventions she had gone to with her friends. She remembered how much fun she had. And fun wasn't a bad thing to have, especially on a Saturday.

"Right. Of course. I remember. I just slept in. Give me some time to get ready. Okay?"

"Okay," Jay said. "I'll wait for you in the living room." He walked out of her room and into the hall, closing the door behind him.
