“Ow!” she almost yelled. Through the thumping pain, she managed to indicate to Mrs. Watson that she wasn’t feeling too well and so the teacher sent her off to the nurse’s office. She was in so much pain that she didn’t realise that she had left her handbag and books behind.
Jon, who had been sitting quietly during this whole exchange, blinked. Well, that was certainly interesting: Melissa paying attention in class! But was that really odd enough to be wish-induced?
Melissa stumbled into the nurse's office. The school nurse was a sweet woman, who was somewhat clueless. There were limits to what she was allowed to do...including not being able to offer even aspirin. She had Melissa loosen her hair, and got her a cold cloth and covered her eyes with a second washcloth...some of the traditional remedies for a migraine. Melissa found herself relaxing...letting her mind wander. as she did, the tension in her head began to ease, the troubling other thoughts leaving her mind.
By the time the class period was over, Melissa felt back to normal. She needed to get to her next class.
Meanwhile, the student's filed out without paying much attention to the fact Melissa had left her things behind...or at least no one took notice of it...except Mrs.Watson. She frowned, starting to gather the stuff to put it somewhere safe.
