As they walked to Karyn's house, Jon noticed that he was getting several odd looks from people. It might have been his hooded cloak, but he didn't seem to care. He liked wearing it, so what was it to them?
"Why are you going to this Karyn girl's house again?" Zoe asked.
"I'm hoping she'll tell me where Athena is," Jon answered.
"You mentioned her before. Who is she?"
"She goes to school with you, Zoe. I'm sure there aren't that many girls named Athena there."
Zoe thought for a moment, then said "Oh yeah. You mean that tomboy that hangs around with that blond girl?"
Jon had to stop and think about that for a second. Athena DeVries as a tomboy. But he supposed that that's what would happen to her if she had his original personality.
"Yeah, that's her," Jon said.
"Why do you want to know where ..."
"Whoa!" Jon yelled, stopping in his tracks.
"What? What is it?" Zoe asked, getting concerned.
Jon watched as a man crossed the street. That by itself wasn't startling. What was startling was the fact that the man was glowing. It was faint, but definitely noticeable.
"He's glowing," Jon said, staring at him.
"You mean he has an aura? What color is it?"
"White."
"He probably doesn't have much time," Zoe said.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You said his aura is white, right? That means he's dying."
"Are you sure?"
Zoe looked oddly at him. "You're the expert on auras, remember?"
I am? Jon thought. This had never happened to him before, yet Zoe acted as if it were commonplace. He suddenly wondered if this had something to do with the swap. He thought he only swapped personalities with Athena, not mental "powers" too. But, he supposed, perhaps something happened in his past to make him aware of these types of things, because of his difference in personality. Perhaps that's also why he was so involved with the occult.
"Jon, I'm really starting to worry about you. You're acting strange, you want to find people you don't even know," Zoe said.
"I know Karyn," Jon said.
"How? I've seen that girl before. She doesn't hang out with the Goth crowd. So how do you know her?"
Jon sighed. "I just do, okay? Anyway, I'm really looking for Athena."
"Why?" Zoe asked, this time blocking his way. "I won't move until you tell me."
"I think she may have a magical artifact. She may not even know it."
Zoe stepped aside, but then asked "What does it do?"
"I won't know until I see it," Jon said.
Then they continued on their way.
