But the stone wasn't in there. Jon saw his grandfather's letter, now addressed to Zoe (he found himself hating her then, for being loved more. Was this how Zoe had always felt?), but the rock was gone. "That bitch must have taken it with her," he thought to himself, wondering where she was at that moment.
Zoe and Karyn had been hanging out at the mall. They had been best friends ever since Karyn had moved in next door, and despite being almost two years apart in age, they had been close ever since. That's why Karyn had been the first person that Zoe had shown the rock to.
They sat at a table in the food court, eating tacos that they had wished up the money for. As Zoe watched Karyn eat, she tought to herself about how beautiful her friend was. She'd never tell Karyn this, but she'd had a crush on her ever since she'd been 12. Karyn knew she was a lesbian, but they had never really discussed it in any kind of detail. Still, she was glad to have Karyn as a friend, and she didn't want to ruin it.
Zoe finally spoke up, breaking their eating silence. "So, how's the blonde hair and larger chest working out for you so far? Been fighting the guys off?"
Karyn giggled at that "Oh, you wouldn't believe it. I've gotten three phone numbers already, and another four guys asked me out between those. I'm starting to wonder if these were such a hot idea."
They both laughed at that. "So what's next on the wishing agenda? Fame? Fortune? Power?" Zoe asked.
"I've got an idea," Karyn replied. She picked up the stone. "I wish..."
