Bulma blinked as she looked back at her friend's child. Gohan had been a boy. Now Gohina was a girl. Idly Bulma wondered if the change in a main character's sex would be reflected in the original Anime, but this was an unimportant thing. After all, Jon had knowledge of where the series was meant to go, and Karyn... well, she wasn't wholly Gohan, and thus simply by being there that meant that they would have irreversible impacts on the 'time stream'.
And at that moment Bulma was starting to get ideas. She knew what she needed, and to get those things on the ship before it was taken from its dock, she needed to speak to her father.
Jon, knowing this episode as he did, wondered why the ship wasn't out even though Gohan was here, and why Gohan was here without his mother, but considering that Karyn/Gohan had just changed the entire DBZ series from this point back, perhaps even drastically changing her role, or perhaps just changing his name to her name and having otherwise little impact beyond that... well, it just wasn't worth thinking about it.
What WAS worth thinking about were the ideas bubbling up in her mind. And those ideas required preparation...
"Gohina, you coming? I need to speak with my father."
Gohina blinked, her big eyes registering curiosity, but she followed after her father's friend, who was also her friend, the yellow and pink skirt her mother had forced her into waving wildly as she ran to catch up with the blue-haired woman.
Some time later, after Bulma had found her father servicing the ship (he had found a 'discrepancy' in the engine just moments before takeoff and everyone except Bulma and Gohan had gone off to watch him repair it, thus explaining their absence) Bulma had appealed to him to supply some... supplies.
"Hmm... I suppose I could install a basic lab, but some of the things you've asked for we don't have on hand. Let me see here." Tapping a blunt-ended plastic pointer pen to the face of a touch-sensitive notepad computer, Dr. Briefs considered what he saw there, "There's some of the Lab equipment in Orange City, and North City has some of the other things you mentioned, but most of it would take too long to get here... perhaps, though..."
Bulma was ready to postpone the mission, her ideas were simply too strong, too important to put off, though part of that feeling could simply have been impatience. However, her father seemed thoughtful, "What... you aren't thinking...?"
"Well, we only have one at the moment, but I could install the Uniform Interance Referencer, I intended to build a second one anyway, and with a bit of programming..." He was already nodding, the ideas solidifying in his mind.
Bulma grinned widely. "That sounds great! Let's do it!" They both nodded and started to work.
Gohina, meanwhile, had caught her mother's attention and was now dealing with the fuss that attention was causing. The woman seemed obsessed with making her daughter look perfect, even knowing that this trip she was going on would effectively be keeping her from civilization for at least a year, out in wilderness while possibly fighting for her life. Though, of course, Chichi really didn't want to think about her precious daughter fighting for anything, let alone the possibility that she could die, and frankly the fussing kept her busy so she didn't start thinking about it, she had enough to worry about from her injured husband.
