Karyn had spent all her life as a girl. However, she wasn't the most feminine of females in even her own area alone, indeed she was a tomboy. She would rather 'play' football over cheering on the players, she would rather wear jeans than skirts, she would rather hang around with Jon, a boy, than with most of the girls in their class, even when the both of them had been made fun of early on for this. And being a tomboy meant that she would periodically be jibed at for her lack of femininity, the worst being once when she'd gotten too close to another girl and Sarah had decided to call her a Dyke.
Of course, after Sarah's shoulder was put back in place, she didn't cross that line any longer.
But even though she'd often acted almost boy-like at times, Karyn was always and always would be a girl at heart, and being in the body of a boy was... nigh on a nightmare, really.
Gohan on the other hand had been born a boy, but what was a boy? All he really knew about the difference between boys and girls was that boys were called boys and girls were called girls, and they wore different clothes sometimes. He was much too young to truly understand any such differences, and to this point in his life, even if he had been old enough for such things to be on his mind, he hadn't really been exposed to anything that would so much as indicate that there WAS a difference, heck Gohan probably wouldn't have realized that pink was typically associated with girls unless it was pointed out to him, which it hadn't been. All of this meant that, when the question of whether he/she wanted to be a boy or a girl, Gohan's side of the conglomerate personality... simply couldn't care less. If the other side was uncomfortable, let that side decide, Gohan just wanted to go to Namek and get all this stuff over with.
And this was the reasoning and subtle nuances of thought that went into the next sentence. "I wish I was a girl!"
