She took it, and her eyes widened in surprise as she read. "Karyn and I live together in a society advanced enough that public, safe space travel is just becoming available. Umm, okay. What are you saying? That we don't live together and that we're still back in the stone ages were space travel is run by that bankrupt government facility NASA?"

"Wait, NASA went bankrupt?"

She just nodded her head. Then I realized a bigger change.

"And we live together?" When I wrote that, I simply wanted to ensure that Karyn wasn't left behind in the past when I came into the future, but the way she reacted when I said that made me think that we now had a much closer relationship that before.

"What's wrong with us living together? Don't you love me?"

"Of course I love you." As I said that, I instantly knew it was true. I really did love Karyn with all of my heart. I wrapped my arms around her and and gently squeezed, trying to help her chock back her sobs. But simultaneously I was looking around my room with new eyes.

I hadn't really noticed before, but my bed was now a full sized bed as opposed to the twin bed it was previously. I suppose that was explained in the fact that there was now an extra occupant of that bed, which also explained why there were two nightstands. The one on my right had a cellphone, and a man's wallet, while the one on the left had the female versions of the same.

Along the wall on the left side of the bed were his and hers desks and a lamp in each corner of the room. On the right side of the bed was the door to my room with a full length mirror on the back of it. On the right wall there were two separate closets, (I was assuming one was for me and the other was hers) and a vanity (which I assumed was also predominantly used by the girl I was currently hugging).

The wall behind me appeared to be a giant window, but I couldn't get a good look at it out of the corner of my eye, since I was turned the other way.

After Karyn had calmed down, I pulled her away from me just so I could look into get eyes. "The reason I write that part about us living together is because I didn't want to leave you behind in the past. I still liked you before I used the pencil."

"I know. It was just a shock, reading that sentence, not knowing what was true before and what had changed."

I don't know why I was lying to her. I mean, I did have feelings for her, but the way I was describing the world before I'd used the pencil was painting a different image than what had actually happened. But it was like something was playing with my emotions, making me feel things I hadn't felt nearly as strongly before.

I gently rubbed her back in a comforting way. Then my hand came into contact with something weird. It wasn't her bra strap, because it felt soft, almost like...feathers.

"Karyn, what is this?"

"That's my wing, silly," she said with a playful smile.

"Umm..."

"Wait, don't tell me that we didn't used to have wings." My silence was the only answer needed.
