The pad, of course, had said "Karyn is a girl." Jon had just written it down. Karyn was a girl anyway so it didn't do anything, but since the pencil's words could change her memory, there was no way she could know that.
"You figure it out," replied Jon.
"I can't believe everything I remember is wrong..." said Karyn. "I know I'm a girl!" Karyn took the pencil and began, not to erase, but to write something else....
