Samantha watched as the wagon came to a stop near a stereotypical wizard’s tower. Smoke streamed from a small cabin next to the tower. The thing that worried the paladin was the fact she didn’t recognize the building, because it meant the wizard wasn’t registered by the kingdom. Was this an intruder to Dar or something worse? Did the King have a secret wizard doing dark deeds for him? How long had the King been making slaves of his own citizens? If she got out of here and that was a big if she would make sure the King answered some tough questions.

She took a deep breath and relaxed her body as she waited for the guards to circle around the wagon. Samantha watched as the smaller man unlocked the door out of the corner of her eye and launched herself through the air as she heard the lock clicked open. He had positioned himself poorly as the gate slammed into his nose crushing it sending him swearing in pain to the ground. Samantha swore herself as she saw the girls were cowering in the corner instead of making an escape. Albert jumped at the larger man but he quickly side stepped the attack.

The battle was going poorly and the paladin knew it but she was never one to surrender when the odds were against her. She would have to hope her apprentice could hold out against the larger slaver until she could help. Samantha slammed her shackled wrists against the smaller man’s head with a passion of hate for the man’s work. The movements of the man quickly ceased under the assault of the warrior.

Albert fought hard against the large man making sure to take advantage of his superior speed. He knew he couldn’t make the mistake of losing focus again. The slaver was stronger than him but he wasn’t as well trained or fast and he could win with that fact. It was a battle of inches that he fought and if he made a mistake it would be all over for the squire in one powerful blow from the slaver’s weapons and there were people counting on him for their freedom, so he made sure to make small safe attacks when he saw the opportunities. The smashing of the toes of the slaver was the most important first move as the leg chains slow the squire down so he needed to increase his speed advantage as much as possible.

Things finally turned the squire’s way as the girls from the cage had gathered their courage and exited the cage to assist him. They started throwing stones at the large man and though he was tough his body was not as hard as stone. Bruises started to form over his body and small bleeding wounds were starting to leak his life away. His swings started to become very wild and inaccurate. He started to back away from the attacks on him to decide what to do next but Samantha struck him from behind.

She wrapped her chains around the slaver’s neck and squeezed with all of her might. The giant beneath her knew he was in real trouble and needed to get the tiny pest off as soon as possible so he dropped backwards on top of the paladin. The chain around his neck loosened as the female winced in pain, but Albert picked up the slack and leapt with his knees pointed down to strike hard into the slaver’s stomach knocking the air from the slaver’s body. Not to be out done the girls knelt over the man’s body and started smashing rocks into the figure of capture. The united effort soon ended the threat posed by the man permanently.

They soon secured the keys and the sound of the locks clicking open were some of the greatest sounds heard by any of them. Freedom was freshly in hand and they were looking to keep it so they quickly started moving the wagon around to head back the way they came. They didn’t know why the slaver had brought them to this magic user but they were sure it was nothing good. Fighting unprepared slavers was one thing but a wizard at his home was foolish.
