Karyn turned around and was about to pick up the pencil, when suddenly Jon came back into the room.
"Uhh ... I don't think you should touch that," he said, grabbing the pencil and piece of paper before Karyn could get to it. Without looking at the paper and what it said, he put both it and the pencil in his desk drawer.
"Jon, I need to tell you something," Karyn said. How was she going to explain this, that she wasn't really a cybergoth? Ugh, she thought. Why did Jon have to put the pencil away? I was this close to reversing what I did to myself. Now I'll be stuck as a freak for who knows how long.
"I know what you're going to say," Jon said.
"You do?" Maybe Jon knew she wasn't supposed to be this way.
"Of course. And I feel the same way."
Karyn arched her eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
"That I love you, Karyn. Isn't that what you wanted to tell me? That you loved me?" He didn't wait for her to answer. He grabbed her hand and pulled her out into the hallway. "Come on. Let's get to that rave club."
Rave club? Karyn thought.
"Oh, but before we go," Jon suddenly said, before running back into his room. Karyn peeked inside and saw him grabbing the wishing stone. Then she watched helplessly as he said "I wish ..."
