Mikey started the summer like last year, with biking, playing in the pool and playing sports. He even managed to finish his summer reading in the first 2 weeks, so it was out of the way. He and Diane continued to get together most days, whichever gender Mikey was. They were best friends, and new everything about eachother.
After 3 weeks of summer, the necklace accidentally went with Krista when she spent a week with her family visiting her grandparents. Michele initially panicked. Even though she was Michele intermittently for over a year now, she still thought herself as Mikey. Heck, most of the time she was Mikey, now she was stuck as Michele. The first day was slow. Michele went to the pool with Diane, Davis, Vicky and Henry. The few hours they were there in the morning, she kept noting the sway of her hips and the bouncing of her breasts. Michele couldn't believe how much they bounced. Henry also was paying attention to the bouncing as well. After biking home with Diane and having lunch, Michele went for a hike with her best friend.
"Did you see how Henry looked at me?" asked Michele
"The same way he looks at some of the other girls in our class. I think he even looked at me a couple times," replied Diane
"It's weird, because as a guy, we just talk about games and soccer. As a girl, he doesn't talk as much, and he stares more. He used to be so funny, and is when I'm Mikey."
"I think you know this already, but I just have to say, guys and girls are different"
"Yea, I know, " said Michele as she grabbed her breasts.
"Maybe just talk to him about it, see what happens. I think Henry is a decent guy, but hormones can make people not themselves."
Michele reached over and grabbed Diane by the hand, then pulled her in for a hug. Diane gave a strong hug back and gave her friend a peck on the cheek.
"Do you know what my hormones are telling me now?"
"What?" asked Michele
Diane leaned into Michele and kissed her passionately on the lips.
"Michele, I love you, as more than a friend. I think we should date."
"Diane, nothing would make me happier."
And with then end of the hike, Michele's day got much better. They were holding hands when they were together the rest of the week, which went a lot faster than the first day. Krista was actually back for a day or two before Michele picked up the necklace to become Mikey. Once Mikey went home after his change, his mom sat down with him at the kitchen table and told him that Diane couldn't spend the night anymore. So, now only Mikey could spend the night with Davis and Henry and Michele could spend the night with Diane. This suited Mikey just fine, so he could hang with all his friends, just some nights were with different companies than others. By the middle of the summer, Diane had convinced a hesitant Michele to try nailpolish and some lipstick during the sleepovers. A couple weeks later, Michele's bedroom had some supplies of it's own, gifts from Diane. There was also a set of brushes for Michele's shoulderblade length hair.
Michele's softball team won regionals that summer, thanks to her strong pitching. Diane cheered on her best friend and girlfriend. Mikey's soccer team won more games than it lost. Diane cheered on her boyfriend and best friend. Mikey also started Karate that summer, and took to it quickly.
At the end of the summer, Michele noted a change in her clothing, mainly bathing suits. Since Mikey became Michele, she had been wearing one pieces with shorts over them. In the last week before 6th grade, all the shorts were gone. When she asked Rachel what happened, she said she through them out for being too ratty and they stunk like chlorine. When Michele asked for more, her mother said no. They had to buy stuff for school, and new swimming shorts weren't in the budget for only a week of summer. Michele sulked and went back to her room. She put the one piece without shorts into the backpack she brought to the pool. She changed in the unisex bathroom, and walked out slowly, feeling naked, but dressed in a one piece bathing suit. She could feel the breeze on top of her legs, and didn't like it. She jumped into the pool, joined by Diane and Victor. While playing, the lack of shorts was an afterthought, but after "changing" back to Mikey, he appreciated the covering and packets.
Mikey started 6th grade.
