Stacey ran down the stairs as fast as she could, but every now and then she had to take rest, just to catch her breath.
By the time she got down ten floors, Richard McMillan, with the help of his converted employees, broadcasted the device's high-pitched signal over the radio speakers in the entire building. That was all twenty floors and both of the basement levels. Nearly a thousand people were affected all at the same time. There were no speakers in the stairwell, so Stacey was unaware of what was happening.
But soon, she'd have to walk through the main level office to get out of the building. And then she would be aware.
In the offices, mass panic erupted. Women became dorky or ugly, wearing unattractive clothing. The same happened with the men.
At the fifth floor, Stacey took another rest. She looked up and saw that no one was chasing her. Had they given up? If they had, why?
In the offices, people had started to accept their new personalities. Women decided that intelligence was better than appearance. Men felt the same way as well. They didn't care if they were unattractive. They liked being geeks.
And by the time Stacey made it to the main floor, everyone who had heard the device's signal was completely a geek.
She exited the stairwell into the main level office and watched in horror as dozens of geeky and dorky men and women swarmed towards her. They saw that she was not a geek and they felt compelled to make her one.
