Stacey Evans watched in complete horror as everyone (except her) on the 20th floor of the McMillan Tech Industries building in downtown Pittsburgh had turned into geeks. Including the secretary, six people. Four women, two men. Some of them were close friends of hers, like Stephanie and Lisa. Now they were unattractive geeky women. She remembered Stephanie telling her that she had a nosejob nearly ten years ago. Now, it was as if that nosejob never happened. She had a crooked nose again, but she didn't care! Lisa had a mouth-full of crooked teeth. And she didn't care either! They had cared so much about their appearance before. Now, it meant nothing to them.
Fortunately, though, she hadn't just been watching. Denise had used masking tape to tie her to her chair. And she had just about gotten herself un-taped.
They were waiting for Justin Herrington, at the desk across the aisle from her, to completely convert into a geek. She was next.
She pulled her hands. The tape was coming loose.
Their attention was so focused on Justin, that they hadn't noticed when one of hands had gotten free. She immediately pulled her other hand free, jumped out of her chair, and ran to the stairwell door. She didn't use the elevator, even though it may have been faster. They could just stop the elevator and control it to their favor.
She regretted leaving those people to their fate, but she couldn't risk being affected by that device.
A few of them began to chase after her, but were stopped by Richard.
"Let her go."
Just then, he heard the secretary's phone ring. Jessica answered it. "Yes. He's right here." She looked up, a prim and proper young lady. "Mr. McMillan? It's for you."
He took it. "Yes?"
After a conversation with Larry down in R&D;, he hung up the phone.
"People, we have some good news," he said nasally to the nine geeks surrounding him. "We have a way to use the device to affect more people."
"What is it?" Denise asked.
"According to R&D;, we can broadcast the high-pitched signal emitted from the device over a sound system."
"Like the radio?" Justin asked, now fully converted into a geek.
"Exactly. Within the next few minutes, nearly all of the employees of this company will be geeks," he said with a smile.
