Sarah sat on the bus, which was the first time in almost two years, since she had gotten her driver's license. Everyone kept on looking at her. She could also hear them whispering about her. It made her uncomfortable.
She felt better when Jay got onto the bus. She smiled at him, as he walked back to her.
"Hi, Jay. I saved a seat for you."
"Thanks, Sarah." He sat down next to her.
Two guys at the back of the bus whispered to each other. "Why's Sarah being so nice to that geek freak?" one asked.
"And why does she look like a geek freak?" the other asked back.
They didn't know. A lot of the guys at the high school would have given anything to date Sarah McMillan, but their opinion of her was now changing for the worse. The two guys who were talking about her were disgusted by her new look and personality and also by the kind of company that she kept.
When they got off the bus, one of the two guys walked past Sarah and Jay and said "Losers." Sarah looked and recognized who said it. It was Zach Jones, one of the boys at school that worshipped the ground that she walked on. Obviously not anymore.
She just ignored him, and all the other students that gave her strange looks, and entered the school.
