Leonard Drullers, an overweight and unshaven nerd, walked through the mall. He hardly ever came to the mall, but he was there this time to buy more comics. He loved sci-fi, comics, and RPG's. But it was the comics he loved the most.
He was on his way out of the mall, when he suddenly heard a girl sniffling. She was leaning against a wall in a hall that led to the restrooms. She wore a Star Trek T-shirt and had the general appearance of a geek.
Leonard wasn't sure if he should approach her or not, but ultimately decided to.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
The girl looked up.
"Wait a minute. You're Erica Weber," he said.
"Yeah, that's me. Who are you?"
"Why are you wearing that T-shirt? Is it part of a practical joke or something? Because I'm not laughing."
"It's not a joke. I like Star Trek."
"You do?"
"Well, yeah." Except, it was strange. She liked the show, but she had never watched it before.
"This really isn't a joke?"
"No. This is me. The new me, anyway."
"The new you? I don't understand."
Erica told Leonard about how she came to be this way. His reaction was disbelief, but also wonderment. He was really into sci-fi himself and the idea of a device that turned people into geeks was fascinating.
"Do you want to see it?" she asked him.
"Uh, sure," he answered. "By the way, my name is Leonard."
"Hi, Leonard," Erica said, with a sweet smile.
