Outside the store, Jon met up with them. He showed the device to Kyla on their way to the food court. She examined it with a close eye. It was about two feet long and looked like an odd-looking, almost sci-fi-ish, gun. It had a small view screen attached to it with a list of personality traits. At the moment, it was set to GEEK. With all the evidence in front of her, though, she still didn't believe that it did what Jon and others said it did. The only way she'd believe is if she saw it work.
She gave the device back to Jon and looked towards the seating area of the food court. At one of the tables sat another shocker for Kyla: Sarah McMillan, dressed like a geek, just like Meagan. And she was talking and laughing with ... no, it couldn't have been. But it was. It was Jay Duncan. Jay hated everything about Sarah. And Sarah hated everything about Jay. Yet, there they were, acting like they were friends.
Maybe Kyla didn't need to see the device in action. Seeing Sarah and Jay together like that was proof enough.
"Hi, Kyla," Jay said, once they got to the table.
"Hi," she said.
Sarah smiled at her. It was a sweet smile, not a devious one like she'd come to know. "Take a chair, Kyla."
She did and she sat in it.
