"If you're going to make up a story, make one up that's easier to believe."
"Huh? I didn't make anything up. That's what happened," Meagan said.
"Yeah, right." She looked around.
"What are you looking for?"
"Your friends. This is a set-up, isn't it?"
"A set-up? For what?"
"To make fun of me again."
"I'm not making fun of you," Meagan tried to explain. But it was clear that Kyla wasn't buying it. Until Karyn came down the aisle, that is.
"Meagan, it's been over half an hour. Jon's probably wondering what's taking us so long," Karyn said. Then she saw that Meagan was talking with someone. "Oh, hi Kyla." Karyn and Kyla always got along pretty well and they both hated the popular girls, mainly Sarah McMillan, but also her closest friends, which included Meagan. So, it was a shock for Kyla to see Karyn hanging out with her enemy.
"Karyn, what's going on? Have you gone crazy or something?" Kyla asked.
"Why would you say that?"
"This is Meagan Graison. You hate her."
"Not anymore. She's my friend. Right, Meagan?"
"Yeah."
Kyla was bewildered. Maybe Meagan's story was true afterall. But it was hard to believe that a device was capable of changing people into geeks. It just wasn't possible. Was it?
"Show me this device you were talking about," she said, wanting proof.
"Sure," Meagan said. "Jon has it outside."
They bought their books and left the store.
