"Okay, who's next?" Jay asked.
It was like "Night of the Living Dead", except more like "Night of the Living Geeks". One by one, their friends were being hypnotized or something into believing they were geeks!
Melissa and Ashley looked at each other, then just ran off down the road. They definitely weren't going to risk being hit by that gun, like Meagan and Sarah had. They both decided that the best thing to do was to just get out of there. As fast as they could.
"Come on, guys. I was on my way to the mall. You wanna come?" Sarah said.
"Sure," Jay said. "Where were you thinking of going?" He thought she'd say a clothing or jewelry store. She was Sarah McMillan, afterall. But, he was wrong.
"The Tech Stop," Sarah said.
Jay's eyes lit up. That was his favorite store at the mall. They sold all kinds of high tech gear. He was glad that this "new" Sarah had such similar tastes to his own.
They got into the convertible. Sarah was driving, Jay was in the passenger seat, and Jon, Meagan, and Karyn sat in the back.
On the way to the mall, Meagan still struggled to keep her identity. She didn't want to be a geek, she told herself over and over. But eventually, another point of view popped up in her mind: Being a geek isn't so bad. She tried to ignore that viewpoint, but in the end she couldn't.
By the time they parked in the mall parking lot, it started to make sense to her. She now wondered why she had wasted so much of her life trying to become popular. Being a geek was so much better than being popular.
Now she understood what Sarah had been talking about. The world really would be a better place if there were more geeks around.
