Karyn was quick, but Zoe was quicker. Zoe scooped up the stone with one hand. "What is this?"
Karyn refused to say. She knew how powerful the stone was and she also knew what Zoe would do with it if she knew what it was. Karyn's refusal to tell Zoe had nothing to do with Jon, by the way. Karyn, despite her disagreement with Zoe, was still Goth, and she didn't want to be friends with someone like Jon. So, there was no loyalty there.
"Come on, Karyn. What is it?"
"She won't tell you," Jon said.
Karyn glared at Jon and he took a step back. He wasn't sure if he could totally trust Karyn now. Yes, he had an effect on Karyn, making her disagree with Zoe's "Goth movement", but she still seemed to be friends with Zoe more than himself.
"Karyn," Zoe sighed. "I wish you'd just tell me what this is."
The stone glowed and Karyn told her.
