Jon was just ten feet away. He could jump Karyn and get the device away from her. When he got it this time (as opposed to in the parking lot), he wouldn't stick around. He'd get out of there quick, find somewhere safe, then put the device on REVERSE and go hunt them down and change them back.
He slowly moved around a rack of gothic dresses. Only six feet away!
He lurched forward, but was held back ... by Sydney's mother.
"Look who's here," she said, announcing Jon's presence.
"Let go!" Jon yelled.
The woman who was on the floor casually walked over to him. Her long black dress made her look like a witch.
"I'm sorry they did this to you," he told her.
"Why would you be sorry? There's nothing wrong with me."
She's one of them. I can't help her, Jon told himself. He looked at the newest woman that got blasted. She was still at the back of the room, clearly shaken up by what had just happened to her. Soon she wouldn't be. The other woman, who hadn't been changed, ran away into the back room. At least she got away. At least one of them got away, Jon thought. It made him feel a little better. But not enough, because he knew what was coming next.
Jon was Karyn's next target.
