"Come on," Zoe said, grabbing onto Karyn's arm and pulling her downstairs.
Karyn resisted. "Where are we going?"
"Somewhere where there's people that need to change." She smiled. "Into us."
Karyn shook herself free from Zoe's grasp. "I can't let you do it." I'm doing it, Karyn thought. I'm beating this.
Zoe gently touched Karyn's arm. It had some sort of an affect on Karyn, because she let Zoe pull her downstairs. It was the gentle touch of a friend. Karyn's friend, who she now was starting to think of as Zoe.
Why was she trying to fight Zoe, anyway? She hadn't done anything to harm her. At least, not yet.
Karyn shook her head. It was harder to resist. She nearly screamed in her own head: Jon is my friend! Zoe isn't! But soon that didn't even seem to help.
Karyn spiraled out of control. Her new self started to seem preferable to her. She started to regret the life she had before she was blasted by the device. And feelings of disgust started to fill her when she thought of being friends with someone like Jon.
"Come on, Karyn. Let's go."
Karyn didn't resist. She willingly left the house with Zoe. And they both walked along the street towards downtown.
