The new female Jon in the machine threw open the door and said, "The stone! It's..." Then she noticed that Jon was standing there, staring at a wall, and holding the stone. "Give that back!"
"No," said Jon, "go get dressed. An hour ago I would be ogling you but now when someone does it I just can't help but imagine I'm the one being ogled." He didn't exist an hour ago, of course, but he had those memories. "Will you at least listen to me, considering I'm not trying to kill you with this stone? You'll get it back."
"You're a guy! In my room! Watching me naked!"
"I'm trying not to watch you. Come on, tell me, what's the last thing you remember?"
"I was there sitting on my bed and I had broken up with my boyfriend yesterday and I said that I wish I was dead... I need to get out of the habit of saying things like that... and I realized I made a big mistake and I passed out. But instead of being killed I was inside the machine and you were out there."
"You just came out of a Replomat," replied Jon. "You're not the original Jon. She's dead."
"But who are you then? You look like I do only you're a guy. As far as I can figure out you're me, you became a boy somehow instead of dying, then decided to use the Replomat."
"If you want the story, I'll tell you. It all started when I was with my friend Karyn. I guess technically I didn't exist yet, but this is where it starts...."
"That's some story," said Jonnie (this world's Jon, a girl, had happened to be nicknamed Jonnie, although it wasn't her official name). "But this stone... it could really do all of that. Are you going to go home now? I'd like the stone back."
"I think I'd better. If you want to contact me, I wish your cellphone can do it. But I have to go. I wonder why Karyn thinks I was sent here, though. I wonder why she even thinks I exist. I can't get mad at her... she'll remember me as being a guy, and she'll remember I was sent here by a glitch. As far as she knows neither she nor Jon did anything wrong. I wish that when I reset this ARD it'll fix the glitch and send me back, and that the Jon who created me will freely let me use his stone."
Jon paused.
"Is something wrong?" asked Jonnie.
"I forgot something... Right. I wish to cancel my wish that Jonnie's corpse vanish." In the bed, a body appeared.
Jon couldn't resist trying to kiss his female double, who didn't really appreciate it. Then he dropped the stone and reset the ARD.
He disappeared into thin air. Jonnie was there, alone again. "What do I do?" she thought. Looking down at the stone which her male double had dropped, she picked it up and said "I wish for a slice of pizza on a paper plate," just to test it.
The pizza appeared on her desk, out of thin air, with a flash and an irritation of the eye, just like every other wish. So the stone was still working. All she had to do was dispose of the body and... But wait a minute. If what Jon had said was true, it wasn't her life. Not really. It was the life of the other Jonnie. She didn't escape accidentally dying, she did die, and she's the machine-created duplicate.
Did she want to restore the first Jonnie? She was like her. She sympathized with her. Did she want this person to be dead? Casually duplicating people could cause problems... but the stone could handle any of those problems.
Sure, she decided. "I wish the first Jonnie was alive, and is only 'dead' because she's 'dead tired'."
The body blinked, opened its eyes, yawned, and immediately closed its eyes again and started to snore....
Well, thought Jonnie, the other guy had to explain things to me. I guess I'm in that position now. Once she gets some rest, I'll have to explain things to the other girl....
