"Jon?" Mrs. Winters asked, voice trembling.
"Um... yeah, Mom," she mumbled, looking down at the floor.
Sheila sighed. "I knew it was a bad idea for you to have a Replomat. Well, let's get this sorted out in my room. Come on, girls," she ordered, walking out of the room and to her own right down the hall. Karyn followed and Jon shuffled along, finally making her way into her mother's room. Sheila busied herself punching commands into her own Replomat, staying silent so neither of them knew what was coming. "Get in."
Jon looked at her for a moment, startled, then walked into the chamber which was now opened on the Replomat. The door closed behind her, and a robotic voice said, "Makeover sequence initiated. Please do not move more than absolutely necessary. Accidents have been known to happen."
Her eyes widened with a terrible realization. Mom wasn't changing her back! She stood stock still, unwilling to lose an eye or something else to this machine. Metal arms stripped her naked, and pulled several articles of clothing out of seemingly nowhere, dressing her in something very similar to what her mother was already wearing, including similar makeup. Those same arms grabbed her hair, styling it into an elegant braid resting on her right shoulder. A mirror showed a quick glimpse of her before the door opened again and she stumbled out in her new heels.
"Jon?" Karyn asked, suppressing a smile. "Is that you?"
"Yes, it is. We can't have her going to this party dressed like she would be just lounging around the house," Sheila reasoned, smiling at her indirect handiwork. "You're in next, Karyn. I'll let you pick your own outfit. It's simple. It's a program I downloaded just yesterday."
Karyn nodded, warming up to the chance to work with a new piece of technology. Jon just sighed, looking down at her feet and trying not to think of where she would be in less than an hour.
