Mikey and John got off the bus with Karyn. Zoe left the bus, but make sure it was separate from her brother and sister. Henry and Davis got off at a later stop, so Davis put his lips to the glass and blew out as the bus drove away. Mikey giggled.
"You have some funny friends Michele," remarked Jon.
"Yea, they are goofballs, but they are good guys," replied Mikey.
"Michele, what are you up to tonight, Jon and I are going to play some fortnite and work on our homework for a bit. Care to join?" asked Karyn.
"You play fortnite? I didn't know girls did that," said Mikey
"You play fortnite and you are a girl, Michele. In fact, you may be the best player I know, sorry Jon"
"No offense taken, Michele knows her stuff."
"Sure, I'd love to play," said Mikey as he was adjusting his shirt. He couldn't wait to change when he got into his room. He went upstairs, and his room was full of pink. His eyes rolled. How could a girl that likes fortnite live in a room like this? He went into his room and closed the door. He then took off his shirt and found the baggiest shirt he could find. He also changed into a part of shorts, that to him felt a little too tight in front. He put on some flip flops with a small flower design and walked over to Jon's room. The two older kids already were logged in.
"Michele, sign on and help out."
Mikey opened the family laptop and logged in. Soon he was in the zone
"Michele, how was your day?" asked Karyn.
"Fine." mumbled Mikey
"Did you do anything exciting?"
"Kind of"
"Who was it it with?"
"The girl scouts"
"What did you do?"
"Lent Molly my necklace."
"I noticed you weren't wearing it. Who's Molly?" asked Karyn. Jon was lost in the world of Fortnite.
Mikey stopped moving his character. He had made a mistake. Molly wasn't Molly when she had the necklace on. She was a he.
"Don't worry Michele, or whatever your name is, I won't tell Jon," whispered Karyn in Mikey's ear.
After that game, Mikey excused himself to go do his homework
Karyn turned to Jon, "Well, that was enlightening."
"What do you mean?"
"She spilled the beans. Did you hear it?"
"No, I was focused on the game, what did she say?"
"Watson, you need to work on your information gathering and powers of observation. I'm just going to tell you that not everything is at it seems. I'm not going to give you any more hints. Let's get to these math problems.
Jon was confused, both by the math homework and by Karyn's hint.
After a few minutes, Karyn put down her books "Bathroom break." and left the room
