Since I couldn’t immediately see the results of Nathen’s wish and I was eager to find out, I decided to move things along a bit. Gripping the stone, I stated my wish. “I wish that I knew what my last wish did.”
Again, I got the feeling that something was in my eye. I was starting to get used to the sensation by now, so I closed my eyes. A few moments later, the result of the wish came flooding into my head.
Apparently, in this post-wish world, Nathen’s parents didn’t get a divorce; instead, they decided to stay together. I had always been surprised by Nathen’s dad. Normally, bois would simply accept a woman’s decision and that would be the end of it. Obviously, Nathen’s dad thought that hei could do better and wanted a divorce.
Because Nathen’s parents never split up, Nathen and hir dad never moved out of their house, which meant that instead of moving downtown into a small apartment, they still lived within walking distance of my house. I smiled at that, knowing that we would be able to spend more time together. And—speak of the devil—my cell phone buzzed. Glancing over, I saw that I had a text from Nathen.
Hey, just finished practice. WIll be home soon. Wanna use the stone?
