After dialing Alison's number, Joy bent down and cradled the phone between her shoulder and her ear. It took her a couple tries, but by the time Alison was on the other end saying hello, she had it stable.
"Alison, quick! Tell me not to be in trouble with the police or my mom!"
"What?"
"Don't be an idiot, just do it!"
"Alright, don't be in trouble with the police or with your mom. There, now tell me what's going on!"
Joy began explaining what happened with the cop and then turned around to see the officer leaving. She couldn't quite hear what the officer said to her mom, but when the door was shut her mom walked over to Joy. She finished explaining the situation to Alison as her mom walked up and said, "Just a second. What's going on, Mom?"
"Oh, Officer Talbot brought the key to your handcuffs. Turn around and I'll unlock them."
"Uh, ok, thanks Mom. You're the greatest."
A few moment later her mom said, "All done! Now don't let Alison lock you in those handcuffs anymore. The police are getting tired of bringing spare keys over for you."
"Ok, thank you." Joy's mom walked out of the room and then Joy breathed a sigh of relief. "Whew! That was close!"
