Jen, Ellen, and Karyn were at a local Blockbuster, looking over videos. They finally decided to rent the Ring and brought it to the front.
Jen gave her card to the clerk, who rang it up.
"Wait a minute," said the clerk. "This isn't right. Are you sure this is your card?"
"Of course it is! It has my name, Jen Madison, right on it."
"Well, the computer in whatever city the big computer is in thinks this card belongs to a Jon Madison--not a Jen Madison."
"What?" She slipped her hand into her jeans pocket, touching the stone, and said "I wish you'd let us rent it anyway. I mean, it can't be a real problem."
"Of course it can't," said the clerk. He put the DVD down on the other side of the security system and the three left, Jon picking the DVD up.
"That's strange," said Ellen as they walked home. "Their computer thinks you're a boy. It's as if..."
"As if...?"
"As if you really are a boy and it got changed by a wish... and the computer's in some city outside the wish range..."
"But I've always been a girl... right?" She took out the stone and looked at it. "I should ask the stone, just in case."
