Randy Meadows (no relation to Biff) paused a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow. It was way too hot to be out mowing the lawn, but he knew he couldn't get away with putting it off any longer. He pushed the mower along, feeling the vibration of the motor through the handle. He knew he should've gotten it done earlier, before the heat of the day, like his dad had told him to. But that just wasn't his style.
Putting things off was an art form to Randy. He'd been a procrastinator all his life. He had been able to coast along for a while, but now things were starting to catch up to him. After two years in college and nothing to show for it but a pile of debt, he was stuck living with his parents until he found a job that paid enough for him to get a place of his own.
In the meantime, he was stuck doing menial chores. His mom was more than accommodating, she loved having her youngest son around and wasn't in any hurry to kick him out. His dad, on the other hand, was always on his case - constantly telling him he had to shape up and get his act together, or one day he'd have to fend for himself. He never seemed to follow through on those threats though.
There was one bright spot: his neighbor Kayla. She was, to put it mildly, gorgeous. Fit but still curvy, with long blonde hair and an impeccable fashion sense. Currently she was laying on a lounger in her back yard, catching some sun in a pink bikini, a pair of wedge sandals and skimpy denim shorts sat neatly beside her in the grass. Her eyes closed, Randy couldn't help but steal a long glance every time he passed by.
In a way Randy was jealous, she had a job and an active social life, he was always seeing her coming and going. But she never so much as gave him the time of day, even though they'd been in high school together. She'd be going back to college in the fall, maybe he'd finally work up the nerve to ask her out or something.
Who was he kidding, he'd never have the guts for that. He sighed as he pushed the heavy mower along, the sun beating at his back. Little did Randy know that below the yard unknowable energies were swirling, preparing to alter the very fabric of reality. Things in his life were about to get a lot more interesting.
