The magic rock was given to someone in Linda's "new" family, which was Linda herself.
In this new reality, she never married anyone. Oh, she came close once. There was this guy named Peter Madison that she dated back in college, but just as things were going well between them, he dumped her suddenly. She often wondered what it would be like if they had actually built a life together. She really thought that he was "the one", but sometimes life can take some nasty turns.
She looked at the rock that was sent to her. It was from her father, who had passed away not too long ago. She was surprised and obviously very dismayed at the fact that her inheritance was just a rock. She was expecting more. Like maybe money? But, no. All she got was this rock.
But when she read the letter that accompanied it, she discovered that maybe her inheritance wasn't so bad after all. If the letter was true, she could get almost anything she wanted ... and more.
Testing it out, she said "I wish ..."
