Jen did, in fact hear the wish. Given what she had been able to figure out about wishes changing reality, she realized that the effects of that one could be pretty far-reaching.
And she was right. Jo had wished that Kara had dropped her keys when she left the house. That had two effects. The first effect was that Kara's keys were now lying by the front door where Kara had dropped them.
The second effect was that Kara had left the house. Kara hadn't even been created at the time and certainly had never left the house. But reality now changed so that Kara had existed all along. The ghost, having heard the wish, still knew that she had created Kara. Jo (and her sister Jen if she ever regained control), Kara, and Lyn had their memories already altered for that anyway. So what changed was that Kara now had a real room and Karyn's parents remembered her.
Jen approached, Kara behind her. "I found your keys," said Jo. "You must have dropped them when you left. That was fortunate, since you weren't carrying them when the ghost destroyed your clothes. By the way, I wish that you left your purse in the car when you went into the haunted house and you have it now. And I wish you forget these wishes."
"What?" asked Kara. "Did you say something?"
"I found your keys..."
"Oh, right."
Jo tossed Kara the keys and she caught them. Kara walked up to the door and opened the door as if she had done so hundreds of times, which half of her had, at least. She went inside to get new clothes as Jo and Jen waited.
Jen (the ghost) had pretty much guessed that the wish kept there from being problems with Kara. She still needed to have reality fixed for Lyn, and have reality fixed to make Jo and Jen two people. (She had forgotten, of course, that when they were one person they were a guy.) It was time to stop waiting for things to happen and just to fix it herself. She knew that she did have some mental influence, so she would just use that. "Jo," she said, "Remember you said I could borrow the stone as soon as we were finished here?" She hoped that that would work.
Jo replied "Sure", but just then Jen staggered, clutching her head.
"Ooooooph," said Jen. "The ghost... in me..." she said as the ghost lost control for a second. "Also named Jen... must have picked me because of that..."
"What?" said Jo.
Jen Hutchinson took control again and said "I... I'm all right."
"Are you sure?" asked Jo. "I wish...."
