A million questions filled Jen's mind. What was this strange stone her twin sister happened to have? How did she obtain it? Most importantly, could this be her own salvation?

So far, her possession of Jen had given her a physical vehicle to enter the outside world. However, such a setup was far from perfect. In the back of her mind, she could always feel the nub where Jen's true mind slept. Any moment, that mind could reawaken and fight Jennifer for dominance. Disconnected from her magical strong-point, the ghost had no assurance that she would win.

Jen shivered. Being unconscious inside another mind would be even worse than being trapped in a house.

On the other hand, fate seemed to have done her a favor, dropping a valuable magical object almost right in her lap. If the stone had enough power, she might be able to use it to gain an actual body of her own. First, though, she had to figure out the stone's capabilities. That would mean convincing her sister to lend it to her, not a difficult feat if she could still influence her mind. It seemed that things were finally looking up for her.

While Jen had been mulling over these recent developments, Jo had left her far behind as she headed for the door. The girl paused when she realized that Jen had not followed her, probably getting something from their room. The thought of her room brought on another consideration. It felt odd that her bedroom would be so ugly. Surely, her sister and she had much better tastes than that. Perhaps, she could make a few adjustments.

Gripping the rock, she briefly toyed with the idea of waiting for Jen to catch up, but she shrugged it away. Why would it matter if Jen forgot what their room used to look like? It could only be an improvement as far as she was concerned.
