"Now that I have a twin sister, I won't have to be alone all week," Karyn explained.
"What do you mean?" Joan asked in a voice that seemed impossibly strange. "Max is certainly here, and what about your parents?"
"My parents are on vacation until a week from Sunday," Karyn explained. "And after school today, Max is taking a cab to the airport. My folks didn't trust him to stay here, so he's flying out to be with my Aunt Betty and Uncle Buddy in North Dakota."
"But your parents do trust you, or I guess us," Joan surmised.
"Yeah, but they certainly wouldn't trust Jon staying over and believe me, the neighbors would notice. And it's spooky being here alone. Then there's the problem of Ted and Ned."
"Who are Ted and Ned, and why are they a problem?" Joan asked suspiciously.
"They're the identical twins in my Math class. You've probably seen them around. I always thought they were hot and now that you're, uh... you know... my sister... well, I hope you're gonna think so too."
"I doubt it but what difference could that possibly make?" Joan asked suddenly. She was a bit preoccupied fingering her hair and resisting the urge to try elsewhere.
"I think Ted wants to ask me out, but he and Ned usually double date. Unfortunately, Ned just broke up with his girlfriend. Maybe you should put that dress back on."
"Maybe you should put anything on," Joan suggested. "Why are you sitting there naked?"
"I'm waiting to see if you dress up for Ned," said Karyn, then she slid forward to the edge of the mattress.
