"How did this get here?" she said as she pulled out the stone from inside one of her shoes.
"What, the magic stone?" asked Jon. Then he realized his voice was strange.
"I don't know about any magic stones," said Karyn. "It sounds like something my friend Zoe would have. Anyway, Joan, did you find what you were looking for?"
Jon was surprised, but he could tell what was wrong. He was a girl now. He had wished he'd blend in. And becoming a girl made it look like he belonged. He blended in.
"Karyn," said Joan, "I did, but I'd better see that stone. Please..."
"Joan?" said Karyn as she handed the stone to Joan. "Is something wrong? You're my sister, you can talk to me whenever you want..."
