After she clicked on the "Make Changes Real" button, Andrea saw a progress bar pop up briefly, then disappear, leaving behind the slowly rotating image of Kelly in the outfit that Andrea had chosen for her.
"Well, that was fun," mumbled Andrea sarcastically as she looked for the computer's "shut down" option so she could put it back in its box.
A shift in color caught her peripheral vision, and she turned in her chair. Kelly was conscientious about making her bed, her blue-and-brown plaid comforter on top, but now it was merely a jumble of the university-provided white sheets, looking much like Andrea's own.
Next to the bed, atop Kelly's dresser, was not the stack of books that usually resided there, but instead there sat a jewelry box, and next to that a large, pink-and-black tackle-box style makeup case.
And just as Andrea was puzzling over that, she saw the Marie Curie poster taped to the wall above Kelly's bed fade out of existence -- and a poster of Lady Gaga fade in to replace it.
Andrea looked back at the laptop screen. The picture of Kelly was still there, showing her roommate wearing a silver romper, stiletto heels, and a dozen bracelets.
She got up, stuck her head into Kelly's closet, and gaped at the contents. Hanging up were more rompers in various colors, minidresses, halter tops, short skirts; on the floor rested at least a dozen and a half pairs of shoes and boots, all in sexy, high-heeled styles. It was as if Kelly had gone a step beyond Andrea's own wardrobe choices -- Andrea owned some pants, and a couple of pairs of flats, but she didn't see any of either in her roommate's closet.
A quick peek through Kelly's dresser drawers, and Andrea found similar items in there: thongs, demi-bras, lingerie that was designed for arousal rather than comfort. The first thing she put her hand on in the top drawer was a rather large dildo; she closed that drawer quickly.
Andrea returned to her desk, sat down, and just stared at the computer for a while, watching Kelly spin. That "bend reality" thing the opening screen talked about seemed to be true: by all indications, she now had a roommate who was even more of an outgoing party girl than she herself. She wondered if Kelly had noticed anything -- she hadn't gotten an angry or confused phone call, although Kelly might well have called her boyfriend Chris instead of her roommate.
It probably wasn't right to change Kelly without her consent, Andrea thought -- although if Kelly didn't realize anything had changed, then maybe it didn't really count. She was definitely curious to see what the new Kelly would be like personality-wise beyond her wardrobe choices, and the idea of going out to a club or a frat party with this version of Kelly. And now that she knew the powers of this MasterPC laptop, she could change Kelly some more...or herself...or some of the guys on campus...
