"Here," Jared said with a huff as he dropped a large pile of clothes on his floor. "Jenny bought these from Goodwill a few days ago, it looks like there are both men's and women's clothing in here. She is absolutely obsessed with shopping but she rarely wears what she buys." The two boys started to short though the pile, looking for something interesting.
"Check this out," said Brian as he held up a ratty old T-shirt with the original Star Wars poster art on the front. "Want to turn into some nerdy dude from the 70s?"
"It's tempting but I'd rather go for something mysterious. I think I want to try it on this." Jared picked up a University of Arizona hoodie, size L. "Maybe I can spend the night as a college kid. If we're lucky, I might be old enough to buy us some beer."
Brian liked that idea. "Why not? Try it out!"
Jared touched the medallion to the hoodie then the boys sprinted to the nearby bathroom to watch his changes. It started with a pulling sensation in his bones. Brian stood, mouth agape, as he watched his friend slowly grow several inches taller.
"Dude, it actually works!"
"I know, right! This is going to be..." Jared's voice trailed off. As he spoke, the pitch of his voice became noticeably higher. In the mirror, he could see that his short blonde hair had grown past his shoulders and showed no sign of stopping. He ran out of the bathroom and picked up the medallion. He attempted to use it on several other pieces of clothing but his efforts were in vain. Brian laughed to himself from the doorway to Jared's room.
"This isn't funny!" Jared shrieked.
Still laughing, Brian pulled out his phone and took a picture of Jared. When he turned the phone around, the sight of his new body sent a chill down Jared's spine. There was no mistaking it, he was now in his sister Nichole's body.
Jared's panic was interrupted by the ringing of his own cellphone. He flipped it over and read the word 'Mom' on the Caller ID. "Shit!" He accepted the call and slowly pulled the phone to his ear. "Hey mom, it's Nichole. Jared left his phone inside. He and Brian and playing out in the yard."
"Hey, sweety! You're actually the person I wanted to reach, you didn't answer your cell. My boss is sick so we postponed our meeting tonight. I won't need you to watch Jared after all."
Jared thanked his mother for calling then hung up his phone. "Dude, this is really bad. My mom will be here in an hour! She is going to freak when she realizes that I'm nowhere to be found." Thinking quickly, Jared scooped up the medallion and a nearby sock and threw them at Brian.
"Dude, what was that for!?"
"I'm so sorry, but this is the only way to fix this!" Jared placed his arms on Brian's shoulders and watched as his friend's facial features started to slowly change. "You know me better than anyone. Just for tonight, I need you to convince my mother that you're actually me!"
"Awww, no! That's super weird!" The idea of being Jared made Brian uncomfortable.
"Like I said, I'm so sorry! It's too late to back out now."
