This assembly idea makes me feel uncomfortable... thus far we have only touched a little on global politics... this is a biggie...
to quote Jon:

It would be like 'The Day Earth Stood Still'... these 'gods' would be viewed as aliens... and more then likely, feared. Humans have learned to live without them, they rarely actually need them...
What do the gods have to gain from announcing themselves in such a way? I just don't see the motivation behind it. Also which gods in particular, are you hoping will be there? What do they wish to accomplish?
If its a case of "Don't run we are your friends," I think most would run away screaming. But again, I'm a cynic on this.
