Wow... hold on... are we saying then that Artemis is indeed a full goddess? (quickly updates notes) I'm not sure I completely follow here... but I think we can be quantum about it. Maybe certain things are defined and then its as if they were always perceived as that way. It doesn't need to be cause and effect. I'm still not really happy with the way the gods are so... ordinary. I don't really like incarnated gods, (as in literally, given flesh). I really don't like hermes just popping in to fix everything. It's going to happen every time there's a problem- so why bother even writing it?

I think Artemis is more of a nascent goddess - that is, she's still a child, she hasn't yet come into her own - but what I mean is that her god-nature was not created by the sun, just that it was the catalyst by which her two selves became one person at this point. (Again, I'm afraid this sounds kind of incoherent when I try to express it; I'm trying to find a way by which the idea of gods is not diminished into "just another bunch of changed folks.")

I do agree about Hermes; I like the way in which he's portrayed, but to have him keep showing up every time there's any kind of issue would be a real problem - too much deus ex machina kills the life out of any story. (Besides that, I kind of have the idea that the gods in general would be more tentative and cautious about reestablishing themselves in mortal affairs after so long.)

So, Weirdo, I think I'm gonna have to concur with chompy here; this is an issue where it's probably better to go with another approach. Regarding your points on this...I think it might simply be best for Harriet and her family to work this out themselves. Maybe it's kind of odd for Lucas and Cass not to try to help (though it's definitely not a case of "you are forbidden to intervene,") but the thing is that ultimately this is a family issue, and it's always kind of awkward when strangers get involved in those. Harriet's mom is, I think, basically a decent person, and it's possible for her good sense to overcome her emotional turmoil without third-party intervention.
