I read the full thing to them. Sam looked furious. "Our father never gave two shits about justice! Making him into a hero pisses me off way more than anything else. I am going to kill whoever did this". Jessie asked how he found the body. "Harry doesn't talk to him anymore. I only come to drink and hear a nice bullshit story from his past. I was going to do that yesterday afternoon when I found him like this. The body was fresh. I wanted to go on a nice date to blow off steam. That's when I found you in the hideout with nothing to do". I sighed and said "We need to make this disappear. Keep this safe. This is the only clue you have to find the killer. In the meantime, we need to burn this place down. If we can control the narrative, we can turn it around. Nothing can change that he died, but we need to make it sure that it can't be traced to you". Sam gave me a wry smile. "He always liked to smoke cigars in bed. Everyone said it would be a miracle if he didn't burn the house down someday". Jessie caught on and looked determined. "Today's the day then" she said.
We dragged him into bed and Sam went off to look for his cigars and a match book. He found them and brought them to his lips. Sam had a harsh look on his face as he lit a match and brought it to the cigar. "He always liked the shitty brands" he said as it lit up. I turned my nose up as it stunk. After a few minutes of cleaning up the blood and wine, Sam threw another match onto the bed. The sheets caught fire and slowly began to spread. "Okay. I think we are good to go. We need to get out of here and make sure we don't leave anything to bring attention to ourselves" I said. They nodded and opened a window. They climbed out to the side of the house before letting me crawl through. Sam's dexterous fingers closed the windows from the outside. They then hurried me away and we went to a park. We stood around and made small talk for an hour before Sam smiled. "I think the heat will be off us now. Time to go to our hideout. Welcome to the guild, Canan" he said. I smiled as we walked. The quest was complete and the exp. from the two quests got me to level 3.
The guild had six levels: Loiterer, Thief, Veteran, Master, Elite and Guild Master. Each had there own perks. Because of the special quest, I skipped directly into the Thief rank. There was a tutorial to read. At my current rank I could use connections to sell and buy stolen goods. To rank up, I would have to complete ten guild specific missions given by members from the Elite rank or the Guild Master. The base of operations was an abandoned series of workshops. Jessie told me there was a great fire that ran through this district during a riot. The artisans that lost everything left the city. Once we were in the hideout, Sam led me and Jessie to his room. Inside were the two mermen still in their tanks. They did not look happy to see us. Sam was about to say something when someone barged in from behind us. "What the hell did you fucking do this time. I'm minding my own business when I hear all this talk about some mermen and a harpy" he said. He then looked at me and then at the mermen in the tanks.
Sam smiled and said "They were right. I recruited another Thief here. His name's Canan. We found them on the beach. We turned the tables on them when they tried to trick us into the water". The man looked to be in his mid twenties. He rubbed his temples before sighing. He then smiled. "Sam. You heard the legends, right?" he asked him. Sam nodded with a knowing smile on his face. "The red one is the one who will cause the most trouble. We can take a piece from him first. I can't think of anyone else I'd want to do this with, Harry" he said as he drew a dagger. Dyno glared at him and said "Don't come any closer". It did not cover the shaking as he leaned back as far from him as possible. Sam walked over to him and said "We don't want to kill you. Just let us nick your tail". Dyno looked at him before raising it. He chuckled as he cut a chunk out of his tail. Dyno screamed in agony when the blade dug into his flesh. He held the flesh out to me and said "Here. You can test it out first and see if it works". I took it and popped it in my mouth.
