Unknown to Jon and Karyn, the stone was actually The Missing Stone, and shortly after Jon made his wish and put it down on his nightstand, the stone disappeared from his room and reappeared somewhere else.
In fact, the stone was now in the possession of the teenage geek Kyla Leeson. She was in her kitchen getting something to eat for breakfast when suddenly it appeared on the table, right next to her glass of milk. As she picked it up, she wondered where it came from (she didn't notice it just appearing there).
"Kyla," her mother said, breaking her attention away from the strange stone. "Why don't we go see a movie when you get off from school. You need to take a break from schoolwork and have some fun once in a while."
"Schoolwork is fun, Mom," Kyla said. She was really looking forward to working on her science project. This year, she was aiming to win first place. Last year, Jay Duncan won first place (and Kyla only got fourth). Kyla liked Jay (okay, maybe a little more than just "liked"), but she always wondered if maybe Jay won first place for another reason, other than because of his project. She didn't want to believe that the judges were chauvinistic, but what if they were?
Her mother shrugged. "Whatever," her mom said. "When I went to school, schoolwork was just work."
That's because all you wanted to do was hang out with your friends and talk about fashion and boys, Kyla thought. She sighed. Her mother just couldn't understand the satisfaction that she got from completing her work ... especially work attributed to her science class.
Thinking about the science fair, Jay Duncan, and her mother, Kyla muttered "I wish ..."
