Getting in the car with her mom was a weird experience for Karyn, like something out of body snatchers, it was her mom, but not her mom, like seeing your parent drunk. Karyn didn't know how to react, and Bethany could feel her daughter staring at her, and Karyn could feel her mom noticing that. Say something!
"So, what were you and Linda talking about?" was the best she could do.
" Oh you know, stuff and things, I'm more interested about what happened with you and Jon. Want to talk about that?" Her mom retorted. She was talking to Karyn like they were old girlfriends not mother/daughter. Karyn could feel herself start to blush. Her mom didn't give her the chance to speak.
"I think you two should go for it, I mean he's a project, but based on his family, all the both of you need is some confidence and you two could own this town and you'd be cute!"
"Mom, I don't think...."
"I get it, you don't want to be miss popular cause she's been mean to you, her mom Sue was the same with me, and you know why I didn't care? "
This was starting to feel like a speech that had been given before, even thought it was strange to see her mom in this light, she seemed so sure, so....
"Confidence. The best thing about us isn't that we are hot, it's that we know it." That took a turn for the worst, Karyn was almost on her way to being inspired.
"You can't just learn..." Karyn retorted to this ridiculous statement.
"Oh I can teach you." and with that she let her blonde hair down. "Just pay attention"
With that they were home, and home was even stranger. Karyn's dad was the same, for the most part, but the house was much better shape, was painted a different color inside and the one major thing that Karyn noticed was that her dad was doing something he usually didn't, he was fawning over his wife. Not to say he was a jerk before, but there is a way you go about loving your wife, and this new Bethany commanded something more than the usual and she was soaking it up, exactly like a beautiful, confident woman would. The food, the kisses, the way he held her, her mom wasn't just being loved, she was being worshiped.
A thought crept into Karyn's head....'was this confidence? or was this magic? Was this her wish or was this something else?' and why did she want it?
Suddenly there was a flash, Karyn looked around, but everything seemed the same. Jon somehow must have made another wish! She'd have to check in on him soon.
