“What’s wrong, Jaryn-boi?” Konathan asked. Shi was a little creeped out that hir friend had started calling hir Karyn. That sounded like a boi’s name. On top of that, it seemed that Jaryn was stalling in giving hir the answer to hir math problem and that frustrated hir because shi really wanted to watch the new episode of Star Trek.
“Well,” Jon began, “I made a wish with my stone and it was a stupid one.” He wasn’t sure if this new Karyn, or Konathan as she was now called, knew about the stone.
Konathan frowned. “What exactly did you wish for?”
Jon sighed before continuing. At least she knew about it.
“I just wished that something interesting would happen.”
“Jaryn, you know how dangerous that thing is. Now, can you help me with these quadratic equations?” Konathan sighed.
Jon looked at the problem again. “Oh, I got this one. Remember, x squared plus 4 can never equal zero plus a square can’t be negative.”
“Ah, OK. You’re so good at helping me out with this stuff,” Kona sighed. It suddenly occurred to Jon that he was now the one helping with math. “Thanks, Jaryn.”
“Um, sure,” Jon replied, still a little confused as to the current situation. Karyn hung up before Jon could follow up on the wish that he made. He got up from his chair and realized that the clothes he was wearing, his hair—no, the entire room had changed!
What the...
“Jaryn! Dinner’s ready!” his mom called out. There was that name again... Jaryn, Jon sighed.
“Alright, coming!” He’d try and figure this out later.
