Once he got back to his room, Jon grabbed the stone. "I wish I knew why my last wish affected Zoe too." He waited for the stone to glow, but it didn't. What he didn't realize was that it couldn't grant the wish to all the Goths (it was the Similarity Target Stone, remember) because the Goths hadn't made any wishes.
"What's wrong with this thing?" he asked, looking down at the stone. Why wasn't it working? Had he broken it somehow?
There was a knock at his door. "Jon, shouldn't you be getting to school?" It was his mother.
"Uh, yeah," he said, putting the stone in his pocket and grabbing his schoolbag. He'd just have to wait until later to figure out what was wrong with the stone.
He left the house and made his way to school.
