When Jon was dressed and all ready for school, he made his way downstairs to grab some breakfast.
After he got something to eat and sat down at the table, his sister Zoe walked into the room. She was dressed just like usual: a fishnet shirt underneath a black leather corset, a black frayed miniskirt, black and white striped stockings, and black knee-high buckled boots with four-inch stacks. Jon could never figure out how their mother could let her go out like that, or why the school allowed it either. Didn't it violate some sort of dress code?
But it wasn't her outfit that caught his attention, it was the cellphone in her hand. Zoe was never one to constantly talk to friends. And when she did use her cellphone, it was in private. But this time, she was chatting away right in front of him.
"Yeah," she said, smiling. "Can you believe that?"
Jon briefly wondered who she was talking to. Her friend Athena? Or Zelda? But then he decided he didn't really care. He went back to eating his breakfast. But he stopped when something Zoe said piqued his interest.
"Sarah, don't worry. It's all gonna be fine."
Sarah? Jon thought.
After Zoe was done with her call, Jon asked "Who was that on the phone?"
"It's just Sarah," she said, opening the refrigerator to look for something to eat.
"Sarah who?"
"Sarah McMillan. Who else?"
Now Jon was really confused. "Why are you talking to Sarah? You two hate each other."
Zoe grabbed something from the refrigerator and sat down at the table. "Hate each other? How could I hate Sarah? We have so much in common."
"In common?"
"Yeah, we're both Goth and we're both popular."
Jon stared. "Popular," he uttered. Suddenly, the wish he made earlier came to the forefront of his mind. His wish to become popular and friends with his "enemies". Zoe was definitely not popular and definitely not friends with Sarah, but now she was. Obviously, this had something to do with what he wished, but why was it granted to Zoe as well? "Could you ... uh ... excuse me?" he said, before standing up and rushing out of the room.
Once he got back to his room, he grabbed the stone. "I wish ..."
