"If that's not Mikey's room anymore, then where does he sleep?" Karyn asked. It was a good question.
Jon knocked on Zoe's door and it opened. But it wasn't Zoe who opened it. It was Mikey.
"Mikey?" Jon asked. "Where's Zoe?"
"In her room maybe?"
"Isn't this her room?"
"No. This is my room. Zoe's room is in the basement."
"Oh, yeah. Of course," Jon said, humoring him. "Thanks, Mikey."
Mikey closed the door, then Jon turned to Karyn. "Well, I guess that answers your question." He saw Karyn looking around her, like she was looking for something. "Karyn?"
She looked up at him. "Huh?"
"Did you lose something?"
"I can't find my cell phone. It was in my pocket. I'm sure it was."
"Maybe you left it at home. You were pretty excited about using the stone, maybe you forgot."
"I suppose." She paused for a moment. "Could I use your phone, then? I just want to double check with Mom. I don't want to lose it."
"Of course. Here you go," Jon said, giving her his cell phone.
She dialed the number and heard her mom answer it.
"Hi, Mom. It's Karyn. I was wondering. Did I accidentally leave my cell phone there?"
"Did you get a new cell phone?" her mom asked.
"No. I've had it for a while."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Mom, you gave it to me as a Christmas present over a year ago."
"I'm sure I didn't. But if I find something, I'll call Jon. Just like always. Have a nice day at school, honey. Bye."
"Bye," Karyn said, reluctantly. She turned to Jon. "My cell phone isn't just missing, it's gone. My mom acts like I never had it. This is getting strange."
"Yeah, it is," Jon agreed.
