Once inside, he immediately turned off Zoe's metal music and then sat down on her bed. He looked around at her room and began to think that maybe she was more disturbed than he originally thought, as there were posters on her walls, displaying both gothic and morbid imagery. He felt so disturbed by it that he just wanted to get out of there and back into his own bedroom. But if he got caught by his mom in there again ...
A cell phone was ringing and Jon quickly grabbed it and answered it.
"Karyn?" he asked. But then, he thought, why would it be Karyn? This was Zoe's cell phone, not his.
"Karyn?" the girl on the other end said. "Zoe, it's me. Athena."
Athena was Zoe's best friend, as Jon recalled.
"Uh, of course. What's up?"
There was a pause. "You seem to be in a happy mood today."
This is happy? Jon thought to himself. "Uhh, yeah." Then an idea occurred to him. "You know, maybe we could meet somewhere to talk about it."
"Okay, how about at the fallen log?" Athena asked.
"Fallen log?"
"Yeah. You know, by the school."
There was a tree in the forest that bordered the school grounds that had fallen over, years ago. The trunk was large enough that more than one person could sit on it. Maybe that's what she was talking about.
"Okay, I'll be there soon."
Jon didn't know a whole lot about Athena, but there were rumors that she was a witch. Of course, he thought that was ridiculous. Witches and magic didn't exist. But since he got the wishing stone, he began to think that maybe it was possible after all.
Since he didn't know where the stone was, he had to use every bit of help to rectify this situation. And that included getting help from Zoe's best friend.
