Jon's body, along with the stone, suddenly appeared just outside the school. But immediately after the teleportation, Zoe's mind swapped with someone else's, who was within 100 feet of the stone. And that person was Sarah McMillan, of all people.
"Sarah? Is something wrong?" Tiffany asked.
"Sarah? Why are you calling me ..." Zoe looked down at herself and nearly screamed. First she was in her brother's body, which didn't make any sense at all, and now she was in Sarah McMillan's body? This was a nightmare. It had to be. "I think I'm gonna be sick." Zoe hated the popular crowd, but most of all she hated Sarah. The revulsion of what had happened to her was so strong that she barfed all over the sidewalk.
"Eww, Sarah," Allison said. "That's gross."
"No!" Jon yelled.
"Zoe? What are you doing in Jon's bedroom?"
Jon turned around. It was his mom. She thought that he was Zoe. Which, he supposed, he was, but only in body.
"I don't think he'll like seeing you in here. Where is Jon, anyway? I didn't see him leave."
"He's probably somewhere," Jon said.
"Well, come on. Get out of there. Go back to your room."
Jon didn't have any reason to be in there anyway. The stone was gone, taken along with Zoe, wherever she went.
So, he went to Zoe's room, as his mom asked. Which was very strange for him, by the way. Not including the last ten minutes, he had only gone into Zoe's room a handful of times. She didn't like being disturbed. And now, it almost felt like he was trespassing.
"Could you please turn down that music while you're at it?" his mom asked, walking by and then down the stairs. "If the walls vibrate anymore, this house is going to collapse."
Jon opened Zoe's bedroom door and walked in.
