"Hello, Sarah," Karyn said, walking towards her and her friends.
"What does she want?" Allison asked Sarah. All of Sarah's friends seemed disgusted at Karyn's presence.
Sarah grabbed Karyn's arm and pulled her away from her friends. "Karyn? What are you wearing?"
Karyn seemed a little confused. She looked down at herself, then back up at Sarah. "What I usually wear?"
"Where did you get that make-up from? Are you trying to scare away all my friends?"
"Sarah, I don't know what you mean. I always wear this make-up. You even complimented me on it a few minutes ago."
"Are you insane? I would never compliment you on that. It looks disgusting. Promise me you'll take it off. And also get rid of that dress. It looks horrid."
"Sarah. Are you my friend or not?"
"I am your friend, Karyn. But you're ruining my status. I can't be seen with you."
"Is that all you care about? Your status? Does our friendship mean nothing?"
Sarah was at an impasse. She was close friends with Karyn, but she was also the most popular girl in school, something that she strove for and definitely deserved. Her friendship with Karyn meant a lot to her, but at the same time, so did her status. (Of course, unknown to Sarah, the stone was forcing her to be friends with Karyn, so that desire would be as strong as her desire to be popular.)
If only Karyn didn't force her to choose ...
Why was she even dressed like a freak anyway?
So, what was Sarah going to choose? Friendship or status?
