Karyn picked up her bag and headed out of the house. Damned if she was going to spend the day hiding, and not like she was going to head to school. She thought about everyone in town being taken out of their comfy lives and tossed into new ones. That was certainly worth seeing.

She wondered what those cheerleader bitches had ended up as. It was almost worth seeing them to find out.

She was only a few blocks from her house when a shrill voice called, "Yoo hoo! Karyn, like, is that you?"

She turned, and spotted...Kyla Leeson and Jay Duncan...but not. Kyla's acne, braces, and pigtails were gone. Everything she was wearing looked designer. Jay was muscular and had this look on his face as Kyla clung to his arm.

"I like, thought that was you. Look, Jay, Karyn got turned into one of those Goth freaks."

"And you got turned into fucking Ken and Barbie," Karyn said.

"One minute, I'm getting my stuff to go to school...like usual, and the next minute I'm about to get into Jay's car. Except Jay doesn't own a car. But now he has a car and its classic and so cool..." She said, talking a mile a minute.

Karyn looked at her. "Can you talk like you normally do?"

Kyla looked at her blankly for a moment, and it took what seemed like an eternity of a moment for her to focus enough on the question. "I'm having real trouble focusing," she said. "It's as if there's a direct line from my brain to my mouth and everything I'm thinking just comes spilling out..." She looked at Karyn seriously. "How did this happen?"

"Don't know," Karyn lied. She wasn't going to tell them about the stone, no matter how mad she was at Jon. She wasn't an idiot. "You two are pretty smart. What do you think?"

Jay looked at her. "I...er...." he scratched his head. "I...can't think of anything. He looked back at Kyla, clearly having trouble focusing on anything but her.

"Sorry, Karyn. Me neither," Kyla said. "I mean, it could be a parallel universe. You know, like where there are other versions of us, and one's a nerd, and one's a goth, and one's a cheerleader..." she was speeding up again. "Wouldn't it be like totally cool if a bunch of other yous got to meet in a room? Probably would be, like, totally confusing. I mean, everyone has the same name and stuff..."

Karyn rolled her eyes. "I've got to go," she said. She needed to find some people who didn't piss her off.

"Like, what's her problem?" Kyla said.
