"Maybe I'll keep this to myself for now," Dave decided. "First things first, make myself comfortable."
Once more, his gaze went back to the gorgeous hostess. With her mouth-watering curves and great legs, all squeezed into that flashy dress, she really outshone any of the other girls present. "I wish that Rebecca Levitt would find me attractive and give me some extra special attention for the rest of this party."
Sure, he could always wish that she would throw herself at him, right then and there, but what would the fun in that be? Besides, if Rebecca proved unsatisfactory, he wanted to keep a few more options open.
At this point, Rebecca seemed to conclude her conversation with Carter and turned to glance at Dave. For a moment, their gazes met, and a slightly stunned expression passed through the girl's lovely blue eyes. Blushing slightly, she came back to him. "Um, you know, I still feel really bad that you missed the raffle. Maybe, I could, uh, make it up to you?" She smiled hopefully.
Dave gave her a grin. "Sure. What did you have in mind?"
Rebecca's relief at his acceptance gave way to some uncertainty, as if she hadn't really planned that far ahead. Then, her face brightened. "How about this: you can hang out with me until I think of something. Sound good?"
In reply, Dave offered his elbow. "Where to, Your Highness?"
Eagerly slipping her arm through his, she said, "Well, I'm the hostess, and there are lots of guests to take care of. So let's mingle for a while."
Just before they headed away, Dave put his pendant back on, whispering, "I wish that the next girl, other than Rebecca, that Carter tries to use one of his lame pickup lines on would become his girlfriend for the night. Don't say I never did you any favors, buddy."
With that, he and Rebecca strolled towards the next room, unknowingly stepping outside the Proximity Stone's influence.
