After Jon made his wishes, the stone flashed and Jon's family was adjusted.
Karyn looked at Jon and smiled. "Well," she said. "Now that that's done, what should we do?"
Jon was about to answer, but suddenly his entire bedroom changed. They both looked around with wide eyes, as they tried to figure out what was happening. When everything stopped changing, Jon's bedroom looked a lot messier and cheaper than it was before and also looked ... more gothic? Not quite like Zoe's room, but it definitely had more of a "dark" feel about it.
And Jon himself had changed, looking quite a bit more "emo".
He looked down at his tight T-shirt and tight jeans. "What happened to me?"
"Maybe it was something you wished," Karyn suggested.
"No way. I was really specific, especially for that last one ..." Jon stopped, as he thought about what he had just said. "Oh my god, Karyn. Those were three separate wishes I made for my mom. The stone must have only granted the first one like I wanted, but then granted the others to someone else." He stood up from the bed and walked to his mirror. The boy looking back at him was definitely emo, especially wish that long hair hiding the left side of his face. But what kind of reality change could have affected his life like this?
He left the bedroom and walked down the hall. First, he checked Zoe's room. "Karyn," Jon said.
Karyn walked into the room with wide eyes. It was no longer a bedroom. Instead, it was being used for storage.
Jon ran out of Zoe's room and then into Mikey's room. But that room wasn't a bedroom either.
Karyn walked into the room behind him. "What do you think happened?"
"I think ... that Zoe and Mikey don't exist in this reality. I think that they were never born."
"Why would you think that? Just because their rooms are being used for something else doesn't mean that ..."
"Because of the wishes I made, Karyn." Jon sighed. "Of the three wishes I made for my mom, only the first one actually affected her. But the other two wishes were supposed to specify what I meant in the first wish. Now, since those other two wishes didn't affect her, the first wish makes it so that she was Goth before she got married. My mom wasn't a Goth, Karyn. She was never a Goth, not until all these wishes were made. That difference in the past has changed the present."
"Okay, but who got affected by the second two wishes? If Zoe and Mikey aren't here anymore, then Zoe's friend can't be here either. So that leaves your mom and dad."
"And us," Jon said.
"Well, I'm pretty sure they weren't granted to me," Karyn said. "I don't have piercings or tattoos and I don't enjoy gothic things."
"How do you know that? I mean, about enjoying gothic things? You heard the wish, so you don't really know if you would."
"Jon, trust me. Vampires, graveyards, human sacrifices. Not my thing."
"Okay, then who else could the wishes have affected?" Jon asked.
